cusco - the imperial city of the incas

The Incas considered Cusco the hub of the world. Today, Cusco is still one of the most beautiful and interesting cities of South America. Cusco impresses with its spectacular location at a height of 3500 meters in the Peruvian Andes.


In and around Cusco, there are lots of sights to explore. Numerous interesting museums are telling about the kingdom of the Inka and Peru’s history.



The “Plaza de Armas” represents Cusco’s city centre: Surrounded by churches originating from colonial times, arcades and a beautiful park in the centre with plenty of possibilities to rest.

Around the “Plaza de Armas” one finds a great number of bars, indigenous markets and restaurants, which offer typical Peruvian plates as well as European dishes. Besides, there are many shops in the centre which sell all kind of fabrics made from alpaca wool. Recently, a big shopping mall opened in Cusco with a cinema, amusement arcade and other extracurricular activities. Furthermore, plenty of cash machines and a tourist hospital are available in Cusco.

Many tour operators are offering tours to the surroundings, to the jungle (Iquitos, Puerto Maldonado). The most beautiful excursions lead to the “Valle Sagrado” (Sacred Valley) of the Inca, the salt ponds of Maras, the terraces of Moray and to Huacachina near Lima, where sandboarding excursions are offered.
